Newsy Notes from the LYNNE STEWART Persecution
On Tuesday (6-29) the prosecution inexplicably put forward testimony by a survivor of the harrowing but unrelated Luxor (Egyptian tomb site) massacre. Judge said it was for filler for some details of case but unrealted to actions by defendants (!). Ding Dong! They left out the Chicago Fire. Slide show just has travel log photos of Luxor site, none with dead bodies etc.
If that's the best they can come up with I can get in touch with John of John-the-List about the slews of gays Mubarak has executed as brutishly in Egypt. Proving exactly what? Blind sheik a pussy cat compared with US most-favored Mubarak if that's the way they want to go. Just my rant... unrelated to defendant team.

Newsy Notes from the LYNNE STEWART Persecution
Day 1 and 2 of the bogus trial were great glimpse inside the tiny minds of neo con hacks.
Day 1 - for those who missed - had prosecutor opening statement about the devil-in-a-summer-dress, Lynne Stewart. The snickers and sss-sss-s were held in check by a typical Nixonian maneuver. The prosecution had flacks and flunkies take all the gallery seats before doors opened. That was OK as there was an 'overflow room' (un airconditioned and with few chairs, many long tables) and when there was lunch break the friends of Lynne & co-defendants lined up early and filled the gallery.
Morning was prosecution summation and after lunch was Lynne defence summation by welterweight Tiger (vs fly weight Feds). Then there was Mohammad Yousry, innocent translator's defence counsel. He gave a good speil. Translator worked on many tasks for feds.
Big suprise with him ... he is accused of being fanatic madman follower of sheik hellbent on killing & blowing up Americans... he is married family man who is NOT even a muslim and has never been to a mosque. Ding Dong!
Day 2 - featured defence summary for Ahmed Abdel Sattar who is fluent in Arabic and expert on contemporary Egyptian politics. Sattar assisted with some tasks and Arabic interpretetation in the earlier case against the sheik. These guys both had wire taps and other spying done for years and prosecution comes up with a lot of their charges from the wiretaps etc. A mountain of material. Over 90,000 phone calls on Satter. He was on the phone a lot to Egypt as there is big anti-US, anti-Muberak movement there and Egyptian leaders and press call him up all the time to ask about prison conditions etc.
A lot of calls have to do with current legal team of blind sheik trying to negotiate with feds over prison terms. There is no legal haggling over his case. It was turned down by Supreme Court so that's all over. Reason for prison term talks is his team prefers transfer to Egyptian jail over US jail as call to prayer times, food and language etc. - So Sattar is talking to many Abdel-Rahman (sheik) followers. But when Feds seized his notes & home computer etc. they seized his PHD thesis he was working on at NYU. He is studying contemporary Egytian politics etc. and his thesis is on current gov. there and blind sheik movement. His subtitle equates the two as opposite totalitarian schemes! It seems feds couldn't be bothered to read his paper in all their data mining.
Another bombshell ... Sattar is charged with being a big dangerous killer type plotting a big dangerous attack who must be stopped cold in his tracks because he's a big terrorist equal to the Luxor, Egypt massacre men ... but Feds waited 1 ½ YEARS to charge him! Holy cobwebs, Batman!
This trial should be great.
